TV SUDOKU

BRAIN-teasing numbers game Sudoku is to be turned into a TV quiz show.

BBC chiefs want to combine the addictive grid puzzles with general knowledge questions for a new daytime series. They are currently searching for teams of sudoku "obsessives" to take part in the show which launches next month.

TV bosses are also looking for a presenter to host the Sudo-Q series on BBC1 after ruling out Countdown star Carol Vorderman. She has already published her own book of the Japanese number puzzles.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "The programme is called Sudo-Q, and it will be a new half-hour quiz. Carol Vorderman will not be presenting the show, but it has not yet been confirmed who will."

Sudoku - which means "single number" in Japanese - has become a huge hit since it was launched in the UK last year.

Fans can buy sudoku games in shops and also play in newspapers, online and via mobile phones.
