TOYOTA

TOYOTA are beginning to understand design. After years of producing bland and anodyne saloons, their new FJ Cruiser retro SUV is a sure sign that the Japanese giant is leaving its dull days far behind. The cartoon-like throwback 4x4 is powered by a 4.0-litre V6 pushing out 239bhp with six-speed manual or four-speed auto options.

Sitting on a box-frame construction with double-coil front suspension and Panhard rod at the rear, the FJ is claimed to be one of the most capable 4x4s in its line-up. Americans can buy one from March for around pounds 14,250.
