JIMMY CALDERWOOD last night blasted Aberdeen despite them winning their third game on the spin for the first time this season.
The Dons boss said: "We rode our luck to get this result because that is not the sort of football I expect from any team of mine. I've told the players how I feel.
"It's frustrating to watch a performance like that because we're capable of so much better. However, you have got to give credit to Falkirk who gave everything for the cause and were so unlucky today."
Jamie Smith snatched the matchwinner to maintain the Dons' unbeaten league run this year.
It came in the 34th minute when the striker fired the ball past stopper Alan Ferguson while his team-mates were claiming for a penalty.
The ex-Celt's ninth goal of a superb season will help earn him the new deal he's after at Pittodrie.
But that goal was one of the few positives for the Dons who were hounded out of their normal passing game by Falkirk's fierce commitment. However, home skipper Russell Anderson showed why his gaffer believes he is the best defender in the league.
Anderson and keeper Jamie Langfield, who pulled off a clutch of class saves during a second half blitz, were their main men when Falkirk threw everything into a late onslaught.
And the Bairns were desperately unlucky not to take at least a point after dominating most of the game.
Irishman Danny McBreen, who had two close-range efforts blocked by Langfield in the first half, should have equalised. Langfield's only mistake in a flawless display came in the 68th minute when he completely missed a corner from Liam Craig.
The ball fell to McBreen but the striker failed to hit the target and keep his side gripped in the fight for survival.
Falkirk manager John Hughes said: "I cannot fault my players because they have given everything.
"No matter how hard we tried we just couldn't get a goal.
We came up here earlier in the season and got turned over 3-0 so what I was wanting today was an improvement in performance and I got that. The day will come when we come to places like this and take scalps."
