SUBARU have released shots of the new Impreza WRX STI ahead of its official launch at the 40th Tokyo motorshow at the end of this month.

The company is staying tight-lipped about the technical specification but it is expected that the new STI will use a 2.5- litre turbocharged flat-four like the outgoing car.

It will also retain the hatchback body style that all new model Imprezas have adopted.

Subtle differences have been made to the chassis to make the new STI ride better and handle more predictably.

We won't get it here until early in 2008. Meanwhile Subaru Ireland have announced that Alain Rolland (pictured left, holding the yellow card) - the Leinster and International rugby referee who is sponsored by the car company - will be in charge of the Rugby World Cup final at the Stade de France next Saturday, October 20.

He became one of the favourites for the honour after Ireland were knocked out in the group stages.
