CLIP OF HISTORY

THE British Film Institute recently sent us a DVD offering a fascinating new glimpse of Edwardian life in Ireland.

The 75 minutes of footage lay in a shop in Blackburn for almost a century before being painstakingly restored. It shows street scenes, sporting events, and ordinary people.

Murphy spotted a Union flag hanging in Patrick Street, Cork. It's ironic that the same building was burned to the ground by the British during the War of Independence.
