Warders loo-sers in toilet row

Sunday Mirror,  Dec 9, 2007  by TOM PRENDEVILLE

WARDERS in Mountjoy Prison do not have a proper toilet, despite millions being spent on upgrading the jail.

A top prison officer has revealed guards are being forced to use an old prefab while huge sums are being spent on electronic security gates, turnstiles and camera systems.

Eugene Dennehy, of the Irish Prison Officers Association, said the needs of prison officers must be listened to: "It is appalling.

We are 20 years trying to get proper toilet facilities.

"In 1997 they replaced the old prefabs which had plywood floors that had naturally enough rotted away."

Other sources at both Mountjoy and St Patrick's Young Offenders Institute said both prisons have collapsed into states of total anarchy.

Crack and cocaine has now taken a serious grip in Mountjoy leading to an explosion of violence and stabbings over the past nine months.
