Football: Top Roy Hayled by Barry
Sunday Mirror, Dec 30, 2007 by JULIAN BENNETTS
FULHAM legend Barry Hayles has backed the shock appointment of Roy Hodgson as the new manager.
Hodgson took over on Friday, a week after Lawrie Sanchez was sacked. He faces a real battle to avoid the drop with Fulham in the relegation zone, having won only two of their opening 20 league games so far this term.
Hayles, who scored 57 goals in his time in west London, said: "He is a very good coach who has got all the badges and has been around the world building up an very impressive CV.
"Roy didn't have a great time at Blackburn, but he's managed clubs like Inter Milan.
"He'll have a significant impact, especially on the foreign players, who might understand him more than someone like Lawrie Sanchez."
