Fergie ready for Don deals

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has promised to help Aberdeen restore some of their former glory.

The Dons face a massive rebuilding task in the summer, with an entire team set to be axed following a poor domestic campaign.

But the Old Trafford manager, who dominated Scottish soccer in his spell at Pittodrie, will send potential stars north on loan to assist his former club.

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood said: "Sir Alex phoned a few weeks ago about the possibility of one of his players coming here.

"He will be in touch when he believes there is anyone he thinks might be suitable for us to take on loan.

"He still has a great affinity with this club and it helps that he and I hail from Govan.

"Jimmy Nicholl was at Manchester United's recent reserve match at Liverpool to have a look at their players and there are some exceptional talents.

"But it is difficult for them to break through, so it makes sense to put them out on loan to gain experience. And Arsenal got pounds 2m for Anthony Stokes after an impressive spell at Falkirk last season.

"We know where our weaknesses are and what must be done to solve them. Our plans will move into overdrive in the coming weeks."
