Mercedes-Benz unveiled
Sunday Mirror, Apr 20, 2008 by QUENTIN WILLSON
THIS week Mercedes-Benz unveiled the GLK, an Audi Q5, Land Rover Freelander and BMW X3-chasing SUV that's supposed to be as roomy as an ML.
Sharp and handsome, the mini-Merc soft-roader will be built in Germany (US-made MLs and GLs have had reliability problems), and will come with seven-speed standard auto, 3-litre and 3.5-litre V6 petrol and 2.1-litre and 3-litre V6 common-rail diesel engines. There's also talk of a hybrid with electric motors.
The horny-looking GLK350 can crack 60 in 6.7 seconds, better 140 and return 27mpg. But don't get too excited. European sales kick off in October, but we won't see the GLK here for some time, as converting the C-Class 4-Matic all-wheel drive system to righthand drive is testing Stuttgart's boffins and MB's bank account.
