GWYNETH: I MAY ADOPT A CHILD NEXT

Sunday Mirror,  May 11, 2008  by PETER ALLEN

MUM-OF-TWO Gwyneth Paltrow has told how she may adopt her next child to avoid the "nightmare" of pregnancy.

The 35-year-old actress, who has a daughter and son with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, said that being pregnant made her feel "like a zombie".

She says she found the build-up to their births so difficult that she is now planning to follow in the footsteps of fellow US stars Madonna and Angelina Jolie.

Asked if she was preparing to have another child as a little brother or sister to Apple, four, and Moses, two, Gwyneth said: "Perhaps. Even though I didn't like being pregnant. I was so ill, everything disgusted me! I wasn't able to eat or smell anything.

It was a nightmare! I felt as if I was out of my own body. I was doing everything I had to do, but without any conviction - with tiredness and heaviness, like a zombie. I did not feel happy. Above all - I couldn't see an end to it. I was very anxious, depressed. It was really hard."

Confirming that an adoption of "an American orphan" would be an option, Gwyneth told Gala magazine: "Someone asked me that one day, indeed, and it was something that I was able to envisage, and I replied, 'Yes'."

While London-based Gwyneth appears to be looking at adopting a child from her home country, both Madonna and Angelina went further afield. In 2006 Madonna controversially flew to Malawi to adopt David Banda. And though Angelina Jolie has a biological daughter, two-year-old Shiloh, with partner Brad Pitt, she has adopted Maddox, a six-year-old orphan from Cambodia, Pax, a four-year-old Vietnamese boy abandoned at birth, and Ethiopian orphan Zahara, three.

Gwyneth, who made her name in Shakespeare In Love, has just returned to the big screen after a three-year break to appear in summer blockbuster Iron Man.
