Freddie in for seventh heaven

Sunday Mirror,  May 11, 2008  by GARY FITZGERALD

ANDREW Flintoff is ready to step back into the international limelight when he is named in the England squad to face New Zealand at Lord's.

The fit-again all-rounder will be given the green light to blow the Kiwis away in the first Test starting on Thursday.

Freddie has recovered after his fourth ankle operation and done enough to earn his recall with excellent performances with the ball for Lancashire - although the woes with bat have continued.

He will bat at No.7 for the start of the three-Test series, with England keen to start their summer on a high and beat New Zealand for the second time this year.

And England skipper Michael Vaughan backed the all-rounder, saying: "We are a better team with Freddie in it.

"His bowling speaks for itself even if his batting is taking a bit more time. But going in down the order will take a bit of pressure of him. Batting at No.7 could be just right for him.

"It will allow Freddie to play with his natural attacking instincts and take the game to the opposition. That's when Freddie's best."

The other three members of that four-man attack at Lord's should be picked from Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson and Monty Panesar.
