SOAP BOX DERBY

Sunday Mirror,  May 25, 2008  by LISA O'CONNOR

A SPEED demon is hoping to smash his own world record later today as the loony Red Bull Soapbox Race gets under way.

Boy racer Findhan Strain set the world's fastest ever recorded speed in a gravity-powered soapbox earlier this week.

But as he climbs into the driving seat of his Equmes 1 soapbox later he will face stiff opposition from 45 other drivers.

The Queen's Universty Belfast aeronautical student will be hoping his soapbox, which looks like The Batmobile, will beat his top speed of 45 mph, which set the record speed down the 550m decline of Stormont's long avenue earlier this week.

Record breaker Findhan said: "We wanted to minimise the drag, therefore we made the car as small and streamlined as possible, while still being able to take the driver.

"We can't wait to get another race down Stormont's hill again Sunday. It's an amazing rush."
