RYAN HANGS ON TO WIN
Sunday Mirror, Jun 1, 2008 by BILL KNIGHT
SKILFULL RYAN Moore had to defy gravity before giving favourite backers just the right present when Major Cadeaux took Haydock's JW Lees Stakes.
The 10-11 chance's saddle began to slip back right from the kick- off, but Moore kept his cool and shot Major Cadeaux through a narrow gap late in the straight before holding the final burst of outsider Big Timer.
"The Major came out of the stalls a bit crooked and the saddle shifted then, but it really started to move about four furlongs out," said the jockey.
"He is such an awkward shape that I had to ride him like a jump jockey.
His ears were getting further and further away from me and the others were trying to keep me in but he quickened like a good horse when we got room."
Trainer Richard Hannon was at Goodwood but said: "I missed all the entertainment because I was in the paddock with another horse, but Major Cadeaux has really come to himself this year and he's off to Royal Ascot now."
The Royal meeting is also on the agenda for first-race winner Fat Boy, also a 10-11 shot, while Bankable is as low as 9-4 for the Royal Hunt Cup after his comfortable success at Goodwood.
Masta Blasta heads for the Dash at Epsom on Saturday following his convincing success under Adele Rothery at York.
