pounds 50 STAR LETTER

Sunday Mirror,  Jun 22, 2008

AFTER another season when most headlines reflected mistakes by referees in the Premier League it comes as no surprise that England's only involvement in Euro 2008 was a decision by ref Howard Webb (right) which infuriated Poland coach Leo Beenhakker and his players. As shirtpulling seemed to be the tactic of all the defenders on show, European players obviously do not consider it a punishable offence.

Maurice Williams, Caerphilly

RS says: There's been plenty of cynical fouling, Maurice, but I've not seen players surrounding the referee, veins bulging, screaming abuse because they haven't got a corner. And they said England wouldn't have added anything!
