Toshiba Plans to Manufacture Laptop PCs in China

Toshiba Corporation, the Japanese technology company, has announced that it plans to start manufacturing laptop personal computers (PCs) in China in April 2003.

Toshiba shall set up a new company, Toshiba Information Equipment (Hangzhou) Company, which will be located in Hangzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province. This new company shall be established in June 2002, according to Kyodo News.

The new company plans to hire 1,700 local employees and expects to produce 750,000 laptop PCs in the first year. At present Toshiba produces laptop PCs in Shanghai through a joint venture. - (EMEconomy.com)
