Volvo Construction Equipment to Set Up Production Facility in China

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has announced that it has decided to establish a wholly owned subsidiary and facility in order to produce construction equipment in Shanghai, China.
Volvo Construction Equipment (China) Co., Ltd, the new production facility, is scheduled to start operations in the spring of 2003. The new facility will initially be used to assemble crawler excavators. Volvo CE has stated that it will initially employ 150 people.
Mr. Tony Helsham, the President & CEO of Volvo CE, stated "Our new facility is designed to meet future customer requirements and we will be able to produce a couple of thousand machines depending on customer demand."
The new company will be located in the Jinqiao Export Processing Zone in Shanghai's Pudong New Area. -(EMEconomy.com)
