Emerging Markets Economy, May 10, 2004
Ethan Allen Home Interiors is taking advantage of the Chinese furniture market with the opening of its fourth store in China. Ethan Allen opened the Beijing store in May as part of an agreement with Markor Furniture International Ltd. to develop a chain of Ethan Allen retail stores in China.
Located at Li Ze Bridge, South Road of Si San Huan, FengTai District, the 35,000-square-foot, three-level store welcomes customers with innovative styles for both casual and classic lifestyles, similar to the company's U.S. stores. Complimentary design service is available upon request.
"With the opening of the Beijing store, Ethan Allen continues to strengthen its business overseas," stated Farooq Kathwari, Chairman and CEO of Ethan Allen Inc. "The new store allows us to bring the Ethan Allen brand name and our high quality products and service to the Asian market. High standards of customer service will continue to have a big impact on the premium furniture market in China," added Kathwari.
Farooq Kathwari together with Richard Feng, CEO of Markor Furniture International Ltd., and several dignitaries, attended the grand opening festivities, which began with a flag-raising as ballet dancers entertained quests. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and the burning of the Markor star preceded a press conference after which guests enjoyed lunch and a parting gift.
