India's Internet User Base Rose by 27% in 2001

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has published a global Internet usage survey which states that India's Internet user base increased by 27% to 7 million in 2001, compared to the 5.5 million users posted in the year 2000.

However, the ITU survey revealed that the number of Internet users per 10,000 inhabitants was only 68.16, according to the Economic Times.

The survey added that the total number of Internet hosts (the number of computers in the economy that are directly linked to the worldwide web network) in India rose by 132% to 82,979 during 2001, compared with the 35,810 posted in the previous year. -(World IT Report.com)
