World IT Report, Apr 8, 2003
China Eastern Airlines (CEA), one of the largest airlines in China, has selected applications by Vignette Corp., provider of integrated content management applications, to power its Web site, which enables the company to effectively and seamlessly interact with its customers, employees, investors and partners online.
Vignette will partner with Ion Global Ltd., Asia's leading e- business integrator and wholly owned subsidiary of chinadotcom corp., to build the technology platform for the CEA travel site. The new site will offer CEA customers comprehensive travel information and a number of value-added services, such as online ticket reservation, online payment and cargo tracking services. Ion Global was engaged by CEA to develop its overall e-business platform and online branding initiatives for multiple divisions, including CEA's frequent-flyer program, holidays, catering services and cargo.
Using Vignette's applications, more than 13 CEA offices and subsidiaries across China will be able to write, edit, approve and publish various content seamlessly under a single, unified platform, which can greatly help boost CEA's overall business efficiency and agility.
Having been in the airline industry since 1987, CEA has progressively transformed from a local airline into a global conglomerate, operating a wide variety of travel-related businesses ranging from tourism, hospitality and cargo services to aircraft catering and facilities manufacturing. -(World IT Report)
