World IT Report, Apr 8, 2003

Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer, Huawei Technologies, has signed a contract with Nepal Telecommunications Corporation (NTC) for GSM network replacement and reconstruction. The contract is valued at around $12 million in total.

NTC is currently the largest telecom operator in Nepal and offers Internet service, mobile service and general phone service nationwide.

Replacing the original network facilities, Huawei will significantly enhance NTC's established GSM network capacity and coverage.

In addition to Kathmandu, the capital and largest city of Nepal, its services will cover big cities, the highways connecting them, towns, Village Development Committees (VDC) etc. when the nationwide project is completed.

Under the turnkey project, Huawei will deliver a complete mobile solution including MSC (mobile switching center), WIN (wireless intelligent network) and transmission system.

In addition, Huawei will provide customized training course designed for NTC's engineers and offer other after-sales service to boost its competitive edges in the telecom market. -(World IT Report)
