UTStarcom to begin deployment of PAS data services in fourth quarter

Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer, UTStarcom, announced it will begin deployment of its PAS data and value added services ("C- Mode") in the fourth quarter of 2001.

In contrast to the highly competitive and more costly mobile market, PAS C-Mode has the advantage of high-speed 64kpb/s data transmission, short messaging, wireless email and Internet access in addition to regular voice service, all at a lower cost to the consumer.

Additional value added services include: location identification, Internet content browsing and the ability to download MP3 music.

Consumers can access the Internet through the various PAS handsets, or by laptop or PDA using a special e-data card. UTStarcom is currently working with different Internet Content Providers to provide several kinds of entertainment, music, news and shopping information for the consumer. -(World IT Report)
