Singapore Revises Telecom Licensing Rules
World IT Report, Apr 9, 2003
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has revised some of its licensing requirements to promote greater competition in the telecommunication market and to step up consumer protection, according to the Strait Times.
Starting April, foreign players who want to be services-based operators (SBOs) or those interested in applying for selective facilities-based operator (FBO) licenses can do so without having to incorporate their companies in Singapore.
SBOs are those who offer telecom services such as international direct dialing by 'piggybacking' on the infrastructure of bigger telcos such as SingTel and StarHub, which are known as FBOs. - (World IT Report.com)
