UPS SMS Tracking launched in Asian countries
World IT Report, Apr 9, 2003
United Parcel Service (UPS) has launched its short message service (SMS) tracking service in eight Asian countries, providing customers with the convenience of tracking their package delivery status.
According to The Star, UPS Asia Pacific vice-president (marketing) Matt McGee said in a statement that SMS was a popular mode of communication in Asia.
"With the interface of wireless technology, we deliver more than packages. We also deliver the information about the packages directly to our customers' mobile phones. So, no matter where you are, you can get what you need to know instantaneously and with complete ease of use," said McGee.
He said UPS customers in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, China and India could now enjoy the benefits of UPS SMS Tracking, which has several unique features such as two-way tracking feature and a local dial-in number for each country to help customers save on dial-up charges.
UPS Malaysia managing director Gillian Sim said the company decided to launch the service with in-country local number to ensure the lowest cost to its customers. (Worlditreport.com)
