Lucent Technologies announced that Saudi Telecom Co. (STC), the leading provider of telecommunications services in Saudi Arabia, has awarded Lucent a four-year Master Purchase Agreement and a first work order to expand the nationwide wireline network in the Kingdom by 150,000 subscriber lines with a value of over $150 million.

Lucent will install remote access equipment throughout the Kingdom and upgrade the network's existing capability to accommodate the larger user base.

STC will offer broadband services such as Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL).

Work on the expansion will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in about 15 months.
