India's VSNL, AT&T tie up

World IT Report, Jul 9, 2003

India's VSNL has entered into an agreement with US-based voice and data communications major, AT&T, to offer managed data networking services to local enterprises.

According to the Economic Times, the alliance will result in the bulk of its revenues being generated out of four industry segments - IT-enabled services, software services, banking & financial services and engineering & manufacturing. The local market size of managed data networking services is estimated at $60-65m. Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi capture about 65% of this market, said VS Sridhar, head, corporate business, VSNL.

According to the agreement, AT&T has set up MPLS (multi protocol label switching) enabled network nodes at Mumbai and Bangalore. A third node will be installed in Delhi later this year.
