UK-based Landsteinar, a retail systems specialist, has declared the launch of its regional headquarters in Dubai.

Senior company officials attributed this step to the company's strategy of becoming the primary supplier of business software to the Middle East's rapidly growing shopping sector.

Landsteinar is a major provider of award winning Microsoft Business Solution throughout the UK, Ireland, Middle East and Singapore, covering business sectors, including financial, education, retail, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution industries, the Khallej Times reported.

Ole Milan, managing director of Landsteinar for the Middle East, said that the new office will provide ongoing customer support for existing Middle East clients that include Spinneys Supermarkets, Bahrain Duty Free and Beirut Duty Free.

Retail has emerged as one of the key areas of opportunity for business solutions companies in the region. According to a recent IDC's study retail sector accounted for 5.5 per cent of overall on the ERP spending in the Arab Middle East and North Africa region last year.
