India to use Activated Content in fight against music piracy

World IT Report, Mar 15, 2004

Activated Content Corporation, the entertainment industry's emerging technology and application services partner of choice to protect, manage, and enhance digital content, on Monday announced that the Central Government of India has chosen to adopt its ActivatedAudio(TM) Watermarking technology, products and services, as one of the options in a move to combat music piracy in India.

"India's vibrant entertainment community produces an incredible amount of original content which is falling prey to file swapping and bootlegging, exactly like the rest of the entertainment world," said Stuart Rosove, president and CEO, Activated Content. "We are very excited about working with The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in their initial and ongoing efforts in developing country-wide anti-piracy programs."

India's entertainment industry accounts for $2.1 billion of the country's total economy, according to statistics provided by the Government of India's Ministry of External Affairs. India's State Audio Distributors Association attests that music piracy has caused the sales of compact discs and cassettes in 2004 to have fallen by more than a third compared to last year.

C-DAC officials said that after reviewing available technologies, products and services, it was clear that Activated Content offered the ideal solution from which to start anti-piracy efforts.
