Investment firm from Singapore intrested in Thailand's telecom
World IT Report, Apr 19, 2004
Singapore's state-run investment firm Temasek Holdings (Pte) Ltd is exploring investment opportunities in Thailand's telecom business as well as other sectors, an industry source told The Nation newspaper.
The source added Temasek recently approached Norway's telecom giant Telenor to purchase its 30-per-cent stake in Total Access Communication (DTAC).
The move was in accordance to the state firm's Asian expansion into sectors such as banking and telecoms.
Three years ago, Telenor bought 30 per cent of DTAC, Thailand's second-largest cell-phone operator, and a 24.9-per-cent stake in its parent firm United Communication Industry Plc for US$720 million (Bt28 billion).
