ALAMEDA -- Registration is open for Alameda's Run for the Parks, which usually draws more than 1,500 runners and walkers.

The 22nd annual 10K-run, which benefits the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department, begins at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 3 at South Shore Shopping Center. In addition to the 6.2-mile run, there will be a 2- mile walk and run.

Registration is $20. Forms are available at active.com, in Alameda libraries or on the city's home page at www.ci.alameda.ca.us

The recreation and park district also needs about 200 volunteers to distribute water and food, mark the course and assist runners and walkers. Volunteers will receive a special event T-shirt and can enjoy the post-run festivities and food. No prior experience is needed.
