Van Exel not happy about trade

Warriors point guard Nick Van Exel has yet to speak with his new club, but he is talking to the New York Times -- about playing elsewhere.

Acquired from the Dallas Mavericks on Aug. 18, the New York Times reported Thursday that Van Exel said he had not asked the Warriors to trade him. Asked if he would be satisfied with Golden State, he said, "I'd love to play for the Knicks."

When informed of Van Exel's remark, Warriors general manager Garry St. Jean said, "To my knowledge, everybody would like to play in New York.

"He's a heck of a point guard. When he plays with (Jason) Richardson, (Mike) Dunleavy and (Troy) Murphy, I think he'll be fine."

It has been of some concern among fans and the media that St. Jean and coach Eric Musselman have not spoken to the principle acquisitions in the club's two big off-season trades, Van Exel and Cliff Robinson, picked up from the Pistons.

"Well, it's not making any buzz around here," St. Jean said. "I've talked with (Van Exel's) agent, and it's been good
