"Everyone thought I was being extremely hard on the kids," Carter said. "It wasn't a punishment ... it was a discipline.

"That lockout is the only one that ever happened where all the parties won. The school won. The basketball players won. I grew as a person, so I won. But most of all, the community won.

"These boys are going to come back to this community and do some wonderful things."
