Modesto-based Save Mart Supermarkets has been named an EnergySmart Grocer for investing in energy efficient systems and technology that will reduce the store's energy use. EnergySmart Grocer, a program funded by the state California Public Utilities Commission that helps independent grocers increase energy efficiency, recognized Save Mart with the honor.

SaveMart has its Food Maxx stores in Fremont, San Leandro, Newark and Union City. Chiron Corp. of Emeryville has acquired Prion Solutions, a privately-held company based in La Jolla that focuses on research into Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and other prion-related diseases. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Olson Co., in partnership with the city of Hayward, has opened Renaissance Walk, a 46-unit townhouse community, for sale to low-income Alameda County residents. Fremont-based Nanochip and Ovonyx have signed an agreement in which Nanochip will license semiconductor memory technology from Ovonyx for use in its data storage systems on a royalty-bearing basis. Access, a Tokyo- based company with U.S. offices in Fremont, said NTT DoCoMo will be using the Access NetFront browser in its 3G FOMA smart-card handset. San Leandro's OSIsoft, which provides operations monitoring software for companies, is partnering with RoviSys, a manufacturing automation and plant information company to provide customers with project management systems. African-American-owned New Vision Sports Properties of Oakland said that it has negotiated a new television partnership for the 2004 football season on behalf of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Southwestern Athletic Conference. Milpitas- based palmOne Inc. announced two new palmOne retail stores at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Dedicated retail stores opening at select airports across the country offer expert attention, helping always-connected executives and other mobile professionals choose from the company's line of Zire and Tungsten handheld computers, Treo smartphones, and accessories. Palo Alto-based Copper Mountain Networks, a leading provider of intelligent broadband access solutions, said that it has retained Raymond James & Associates, Inc. as its advisor to explore strategic options, including a possible sale of the company. Informatica, a provider of data integration software, announced the Informatica and IBM Dashboard Engine Appliance, a hardware and software bundle for mid-size businesses.
