College of San Mateo's Julian Edelman, a freshman quarterback from Woodside High, was named the All-State Region I Most Valuable Player by the California Community College Football Coaches Association in conjunction with the JC Athletic Bureau.

Edelman is the play caller for an all-state team that includes players from the NorCal, Bay Valley and Coast Conferences. He is joined on the first team by CSM offensive lineman James Tretheway, from El Camino.

Edelman, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound option quarterback, set a CSM single-season rushing record with 1,253 yards in 11 games. He scored 17 touchdowns (one shy of the school record of 19 set by Sione Tavake in 2003) and 102 points (six short of Tavake's record 108). His four touchdowns against City College of San Francisco tied the school record, and he completed 80 of 169 passes for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading San Mateo to an 8-3 overall record.

Edelman was a first-team All San Mateo County Times All-County selection at quarterback in 2004, leading Woodside to a 13-0 record and a Central Coast Section Medium School Division championship.

Tretheway, 6-6, 305, helped CSM's offense average 462.2 yards per carry, including 323.2 yards rushing, tops among all Northern California teams.
