TRACY -- After more than 38 years of what he called the greatest time of my life, Dan Bilbrey is retiring as executive director of the Tracy Community Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Bilbrey said hes retiring because he has grandkids to hold and major stuff to do and wants some time to enjoy the fruits of his past 39 years of labor.

I have been truly blessed to work with great people, said Bilbrey, 60. Ive been allowed and given every opportunity in the world to do all kinds of different tasks. I met my wife there and we just celebrated our 37th anniversary. Our first date was the hospital Christmas party.

He said the programs the board has established, along with the outreach and support to people in the community, have been absolutely great.

His last day on the job is March 16.

Having spent the past 10 years as Tracys mayor, Bilbrey hasnt made any decisions on his future in the public sector.

Every time that Ive run, I go to Josie and we sit down and talk about it, Bilbrey said. She gives me the nod and Im off and running. We havent reached that time to sit down.
