Education department pulls rankings
0 Comments | Oakland Tribune, Apr 9, 2006 | by ,
The 2005 similar schools rankings -- released March 21 -- were yanked off the state Department of Education's Web site this week after officials discovered the information was incorrect.
The error in the rankings, which compares a school's test scores against a list of 100 schools with comparable enrollment and instructional characteristics, was based on a calculation error.
The number crunchers left out an ethnic category in the calculations, which could skew the rankings.
The statewide rankings for each school are accurate, according to state Department of Education officials.
