Red Cross preaches preparedness at Costco

FOSTER CITY -- The American Red Cross is teaming up with Costco to make sure residents throughout the Bay Area are prepared for the next big disaster.

The Red Cross will host a "Preparedness Day" Saturday at Costco, located at 1001 Metro Center Blvd. in Foster City. Red Cross volunteers will be on hand to provide preparedness information to shoppers while answering questions regarding the "Ready-To-Go Emergency Food Pack," which contains enough food and water to sustain one person for three days, Red Cross spokesman Paul Rose said.

"We're really urging residents to make a resolution that matters and get prepared for a major emergency," Rose said. "Our goal is to reach as many people as possible in the Bay Area. We'll be able to reach so many people at Costco."

According to Rose, a recent survey conducted by the Red Cross revealed that only 6 percent of residents in the Bay Area are prepared for an emergency.

The "Ready-To-Go-Emergency Food Pack" can be purchased for $39.99 between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Saturday.
