LIVERMORE -- Getting glamorous for a good cause is the idea behind a Livermore resident's eBay auction that will end Tuesday.
Daphne K. McCorery, 40, is auctioning off
13 pieces of her own art, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Genocide Intervention Network.
McCorery said she joined the network several months ago after reading about it in a People magazine article.
"I'm starting to be more aware and concerned what's going on -- not just in local communities, but abroad," she said. "Eventually I'd like to do a lot more fundraising."
A caregiver in her day job, McCorery said she's been creating artwork all her life, most recently focusing on collages before getting started on her newest form: glam art.
She has combined her love for collages andfashion illustration into fashion-friendly pieces. The artwork includes rhinestones and other "bling-bling" that McCorery said is likely to attract women and teenagers.
"It's all that glamorous stuff girls like," she said.
Art has always been her passion, and helping society is quickly becoming another interest for McCorery.
The opening bids for the art will range from $49 to $99, helping to support Genocide Intervention's work in places such as the Darfur region of Sudan.
McCorery said this is her first time selling her artwork, which she usually gives as gifts to friends. If the auction is successful, she plans to do another in the fall.
"I just wanted to do it for fun and see if I can help this organization I'm supporting," she said.
To view the auction items, visit eBay.com and search for "daphnekgiving" under sellers. Her items can also be found in the "self-representing artists" category. The auction ends Tuesday.
