Cosmetic surgery isn't always safe

Oakland Tribune, Jun 13, 2007

HAYWARD JUST lost a young, vibrant, beautiful woman because she didn't know just how beautiful she was.

She really felt a tummy tuck would be the answer and give her the self-esteem she was seeking. We all tried to tell her that this was major surgery, elective or not, and not always safe.

Many of us suggested exercise and offered to do it with her. She chose the tummy tuck and now we are devastated because she is no longer with us due to surgery complications.

We can't even say "I told you so." A husband is without a wife, and two children are without their mother.

From every negative we must find a positive, and that is why I write this plea. Please don't think all weight-reduction surgeries are safe.

If you are overweight and think these types of surgery are safe, I just gave you proof that this is not always the case. Instead, may I suggest you speak with someone who can help you discover the root cause of your weight gain and get it under control in a healthy, nonsurgical manner?

And, if a friend offers to help you lose that weight, believe that he or she must really care about you.
