Albany County meets with Mitchell panel

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany County prosecutors met Thursday with representatives from the Mitchell Commission who are investigating the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball.
Just four days earlier, two Albany attorneys representing MLB also met with Soares, offering to help.
Still, District Attorney P. David Soares, whose office has worked for months with NFL officials who provided information, said it remains to be seen how the relationship with MLB will develop.
"There are still rules of engagement, and how it seems that we're going to work together that have to be discussed, and if there's anything they can offer us in helping us with our case," he said before Thursday's meeting.

Suspensions for Orioles pair
BALTIMORE -- Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley and pitcher Daniel Cabrera were suspended by Major League Baseball for their roles in separate incidents during the last week.
Trembley was suspended for three games because he followed his ejection from Wednesday's 18-6 loss to the Los Angeles Angels with an animated tirade near second base.
Cabrera was suspended for six games for intentionally throwing a pitch at the head of Boston's Dustin Pedroia on Sept.7 and his part in the bench-clearing incident that followed.
Trembley and Cabrera also were fined undisclosed amounts.
Trembley began serving his suspension Thursday against the Angels. Cabrera will appeal his suspension and will be able to play until the appeal is addressed.
Clemens ready to start Sunday
TORONTO -- Roger Clemens threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session before the New York Yankees' game against Toronto and said he has "no doubt" he'll be able to pitch at Boston on Sunday night.
Clemens, 6-6 with a 4.45 ERA this season, left a Sept. 3 start against Seattle after four innings because of elbow discomfort caused by a change in his mechanics, the result of a blister on his foot. He returned home to Houston and had two cortisone shots in his elbow on Sept.5. Tests also revealed ligament damage to the elbow.
Rookie Phil Hughes, who beat Toronto Tuesday, is expected to pitch Sunday if Clemens can't go.
