Woodside's Filipcik 4th at Lowell Invite ROUNDUP

SAN FRANCISCO -- Woodside's Daniel Filipcik took fourth in the first varsity boys cross country race at the Lowell Invitational at Golden Gate Park.
Filipcik, a junior, was timed in 15 minutes, 32 seconds over the 2.93-mile course.
Terra Nova's Fernando Diaz placed sixth in the second boys race in 15:42. Serra's Spencer McLeod took 10th (15:51), Terra Nova's Luke Frazier placed 12th (15:54), Serra's Dominic Chelini was 16th (15:57) and Terra Nova's Mark Frazier came in 25th (16:04).
Serra took fifth in the team competition with 151 points, just ahead of sixth-place Terra Nova (155).

In the girls competition, Terra Nova's Gina Dettmer had the fastest time among County entrants when she took eighth in the first girls race with a time of 19:08. Hillsdale's Tanya Singh was the next County placer in the race at 34th in 20:48.
Westmoor's Angela Tse placed 22nd in the second girls race in 19:37. She was followed by Cecilia Chu of Mills, 25th in 19:41. Menlo-Atherton's Suzanne Eldredge was 31st (20:08), Westmoor's Ronda Yip 40th (20:32), Mills' Sophie Powers 41st (20:36), Woodside's Laura Lamont 43rd (20:45) and Krista Nightingale 44th (20:47).

ATHERTON -- Menlo College was hoping to get its first win of the season against previously winless Humboldt State. But the Lumberjacks outgained host Menlo 325-244 and held the Oaks scoreless until early in the fourth quarter in a 44-7 victory.
The passing game proved to be Menlo's downfall.
Humboldt State, a NCAA Division II team, produced 235 passing yards. Quarterback Garret Hubrich completed 21 of 31 passes for 221 yards.
The Oaks had only 76 yards passing and were intercepted four times.
Menlo had better success on the ground, rushing for 168 yards. Angel Molina had a game-high 114 yards on 13 carries, averaged 8.6 yards per carry and scored the Oaks' lone touchdown on a 3-yard run with 12:26 left to play.
Menlo (0-4) will play at Whitworth on Saturday in Spokane, Wash.
