Brown gets Jaguars rolling in second half

MANTECA -- Trailing by eight and facing a third-quarter fourth down one play after Manteca Jaguars teammate Cory Rocha was carried off the field on an backboard, Alex Sandate pulled in a 15-yard halfback pass from Marcus Brown to rejuvenate the Jaguars on their way to a thrilling 22-16 Cen-Cal football victory over the Merced Cougars at Manteca High's Guss Schmiedt Field.
Brown (seven carries, 40 yards) scored the other two Manteca touchdowns -- one on a 26-yard pass from Alex Martinez (5-for-8 passing, 86 yards) and the eventual game-winner on an 18-yard run with 2:14 left in the game.
Joey Trout made 10 tackles and a fumble recovery for the Jaguars. Marcus Brown and Alex Martinez each made six stops and Lawrence Whitt four.

Angel Gomez added the other Jaguars score on a 27-yard pass from Jacob Hendrix (5-for-12 passing for 123 yards).
Gomez made six tackles, Darrion Kitson four and Lyons an interception.

Edward Gomez brought Manteca within 16-6 in the second quarter, but the Jaguars would come no closer.
Gomez gained 70 yards on 11 carries and Jonathon Montoya 54 yards on 12 attempts. Montoya and Raul Uribe made six tackles each, and Alejandro Loaiza added five.
