Lateral move kick-starts Jaguars

MANTECA -- Marcus Brown took a lateral from Manteca Jaguar varsity teammate Garrett Wilson on the opening kickoff and rambled 70 yards to put Manteca ahead to stay in a 28-0 Cen-Cal win Saturday over the Ceres Seahawks in the regular-season finale at Manteca High's Guss Schmiedt Field.
Alex Sandate scored with touchdown catches of 14 and 26 yards from Alex Martinez (4-of-4 passing, 50 yards). Cory Rocha (four carries, 54 yards) scored the final Jaguars touchdown on a 42-yard run off left tackle in the fourth quarter.
Joey Trout ran the ball six times for 46 yards, recovered a fumble and was in on six tackles for Manteca. Jeremiah Jones added six stops and Garrett Wilson (fumble recovery) and Joshua Kolkmann five each.

Jacob Hendrix threw for two touchdowns and Angel Gomez caught two for Manteca.
Gomez (three receptions, 141 yards) pulled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Ramos and galloped 95 yards with a scoring throw from Hendrix (7-of-14 passing, 200 yards). Hendrix connected with Jordan Lyons for a 38-yard scoring play for the Jaguars' other touchdown.
Salvador Pena ground out 69 yards on 12 carries for Manteca and made six tackles while notching a fumble recovery. Alberto Loaiza and Dorrion Kitson tallied five tackles apiece and Aaron Ramos four.

The Jaguars broke a 6-6 tie in the fourth quarter with a pair of final-period touchdowns.
Jonathon Montoya (10 carries, 88 yards) tallied a 22-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter followed by Anthony Wheeler's score on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. Raul Uribe got Manteca on the board via an 80-yard kickoff return.
Montoya tallied five tackles with two interceptions and Uribe four tackles.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY LEAGUE

MANTECA -- Isaiah and Issac Thurman combined for 137 yards Saturday to help the Steelers junior varsity advance to the MVL Super Bowl.
Nilo Yuson's 1-yard touchdown run was set up by a 49-yard Issac Thurman run. Yuson added a 32-yard touchdown run and Isaiah Thurman followed his brother's crushing block on the way to an 80-yard touchdown scamper that proved to be the difference in the game.
Isaiah Thurman made a key defensive play to save the game for Lathrop.
The Super Bowl will be played in Sacramento on Saturday, Nov.17.
