FREMONT -- A 15-year-old boy who was killed in a hit-and-run accident last month finally has been laid to rest, after community members raised the funds needed for his funeral service.
Keith Wilson, a freshman football player at American High School, died of severe head trauma after he was struck by a Dodge Durango while crossing the street near Deep Creek Park the day after Christmas, police said. He was declared dead the next day.
Lashay Thomas, 33, of Fremont has been charged with drunken driving, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, according to police.
When news reached members of the football team that Wilson's family was short
$4,000 for funeral expenses, some parents set up a bank account for donations.
Wilson's mother could not be reached for comment, but individuals close to the team said this week that a private service has been held for Wilson.
