WALTON R. WILLIAMS
1935 - 2008
Walt passed peacefully at home on January 13, 2008, at the age of 72 after a 16-month battle with lung cancer. Walt was born in San Francisco on March 21, 1935 to the late Osmyn and Elsie Williams. His sister Patricia Chappell also preceded him in death. Walt is survived by his wife of 35 years Vicki Williams; children Robert (Catherine) Williams, Jennifer Potter, Carolyn (Michael) Pidgeon, Steven (Michelle) Williams, Rebecca (James) Stewart, and Rachel (John) Ellis. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren as well as relatives in Utah.
Walt grew up in San Mateo, CA; attended San Jose State College and received a degree in Psychology in 1957; and went to work for California Public Employees Retirement System (CALPERS) in 1959 in the Investment Office. He worked for CALPERS for a little over 35 years, retiring in 1995. During Walt's career at CALPERS the assets of the fund grew from approximately $1 billion to $88 billion. Walt was responsible for the internally managed fixed income portfolio which at the time of his retirement totaled $37 billion and had produced a rate of return of 11.8% for the ten years prior to his retirement. He was acting Chief of Investments for a period of time in which the fund experienced its largest return on investments in the history of CALPERS at that time. His love for investments continued until the time of his death. Walt was always the honest voice when it came to work or home and could always be counted on by his family and colleagues to be there when needed whether at sporting events for his children or reviewing the building of the Alaskan pipeline.
At his request there will be no services.
The family requests everyone to share their memories of him at a reception to be held on Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 12 Noon to 3 pm at the Clubhouse at Heritage Park, 2481 Heritage Park Lane, Sacramento, CA 95835.

DOROTHY MARIE (WESTPHAL)
POSTELLO ROBERGE
Of Foster City, CA, lost her valiant battle to cancer on January 16, 2008. Born January 27, 1941 to Lena Shroeder Westphal and Robert F. Westphal. Dorothy was raised on the family farm in Lake Benton, Minnesota, baptized and confirmed at St. John's Church and attended Lake Benton High, graduating in 1959. She attended South Dakota State College in Brookings, SD, graduating from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, SD and Notre Dame College in Belmont, CA in 1983 with her Masters. Dorothy married Carl Postello in 1963 until his death in 1984 and married Warren Roberge in 1998. She worked for San Mateo County for the past 18 years. She is survived by her loving husband Warren, dear brother Harold and niece Sara Westphal of Ireton, IA and step-children Theresa and David Postello and Deborah Fernandez.
Dorothy was grateful for the good life, the strong friends she had over the years and the old neighborhood who helped raise her when she was young. Her friends and teachers from childhood and the people she met along the way all had a positive influence on her life. She was especially thankful for the many blessings in life, her immediate family, the families of Carl Postello and Warren Roberge, the many friends she had, the outstanding medical team at Kaiser Hospital, the prayers and everyone who gave her the strength to carry on as long as she did. She enjoyed laughing, listening to people's stories, one on one discussions, sewing and spending time with those she loved.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held privately. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
