Livermore Lab continues science talks

LIVERMORE -- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's popular "Science on Saturday lecture series is under way. The program, which began Saturday, will run through March 8.
The lectures and demonstrations are targeted at middle and high school students, but are open to everyone. Programs will be presented twice each Saturday, at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., at the Bankhead Theater, 2400 First St.
Each presentation is a collaboration by lab scientists and a science teacher, and is sponsored by the lab's Science Education Program.
The lab's super laser will be featured this Saturday with "From the Sun to the Sun: The Story on the National Ignition Facility and Our Energy Future," presented by lab scientist Edward Moses and Dan Burns, a Los Gatos High School teacher.

On March 1, the talk will be "Greenhouse Reduction: Underground Storage of Carbon Dioxide," presented by lab scientist Julio Friedman and Bret States, a Tracy High School teacher.
The final presentation will be March 8 with "Protecting the Nation's Livestock: Corralling Foreign Diseases," presented by Pamela Hullinger of the lab and Patti Carothers, a Monte Vista High School teacher.
Teachers attending the programs will receive a copy of the PowerPoint slides used in the lecture, and a DVD with the video from the talk.
