No. 2 Fresno City holds off Chabot

Oakland Tribune,  Mar 2, 2008

FRESNO -- The Chabot College men's basketball team's season came to an end at the hands of the defending state champions.

No. 2 Fresno City withstood a furious Chabot rally in the second half to beat the 15th-seeded Gladiators 81-74 in the first round of the junior college state playoffs Saturday night.

The Gladiators trailed by 17 points at the half but closed to within four points with 54 seconds left. However, Fresno got a huge 3-pointer to go ahead seven points.

"That 3-pointer pretty much iced the game for them," Chabot coach Denny Aye said. "I am proud of the guys to come back the way they did. Fresno is the defending state champs."
