19-year- old Rowell Ranch rodeo queen takes crown

Oakland Tribune,  Apr 22, 2008  by Anonymous

HAYWARD -- Jennifer Coyne, 19, of Hillsborough is the 2008 Rowell Ranch Rodeo queen.

She will preside over the May 17-18 rodeo at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Arena in unincorporated Hayward, near Castro Valley, at preliminary rodeo events -- including a chili cook-off and parade -- and will represent Rowell Ranch at other California rodeos.

Coyne was selected Saturday at Centennial Hall. She succeeds Amanda Delaplane of Castro Valley.

Coyne was one of three candidates this year. She is a second- year student at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, majoring in agricultural business with a minor in construction management.

Earlier this month, Coyne and other candidates were interviewed by the queen selection committee, rodeo spokeswoman Janet Lemmons said. Coyne and other candidates also demonstrated their riding skills, Lemmons explained, since the queen will be on horseback at the rodeo and other events.
