Two suspects at large in Ashland slaying

Oakland Tribune, Sep 18, 2008 by Gideon Rubin

SAN LEANDRO -- Alameda County Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are asking for the public's help in finding two men suspected in the shooting death of a Castro Valley man on Wednesday.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Ben Eddleman and Aaron Hammond, both 33, sheriff's deputies said.

"They're both extremely dangerous," Sgt. David Dickson said. "We'd like to get these guys off the streets as soon as possible."

The men are suspected in the shooting death of a 54-year-old victim in unincorporated San Leandro, also known as Ashland, at about 5:45 p.m., Dickson said.

The slaying occurred on the 1500 block of 167th Avenue, Dickson said. The victim's name was withheld.

Investigators have determined a relationship existed between the suspects and victim, but won't provide details, fearing it could compromise the investigation, Dickson said.

There is no evidence the shooting was gang-related, Dickson said.

Eddleman and Hammond are both parolees with significant criminal histories, Dickson said.

Eddleman has ties to El Cajon, San Diego County, and Hammond has ties to the Bay Area, Dickson said.

Eddleman is believed to have fled the scene in a black Honda Accord, and Hammond in a raised, red sport utility vehicle, Dickson said. Eddleman may have been shot during the incident.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Sgt. Dickson at 510-667-3921, or the sheriff's dispatch at 510-667-7721.
