free college admission workshops scheduled: The Gooden Family Scholarship Fund is offering a free college admission workshop for Spanish speakers today in San Pablo.
The workshop runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1845 Church Lane. Although everyone is welcome, the events are geared toward 10th- and 11th-graders and their parents.
Crockett
john swett school board candidates, bond measure forum scheduled: The John Swett teachers association will hold a school board candidate's forum at 5 p.m. Monday, followed by discussion on Measure A, a $20 million bond measure that will help the district fix up John Swett High School. The event will be held at the Crockett Community Center, 850 Pomona Ave. Five candidates are vying for three open seats on the board. They are Norma Clerici, Benita Shaw-Malone, Jim Delgadillo, Jerrold Parsons and Kyle Stockholm.
El Cerrito
Madera elementary to hold yard sale fundraiser: Madera Elementary School will hold its annual yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 5614 Macdonald Ave. There will be small furniture items, art, household goods, toys, games, children's clothing, adult clothing, books and electronics for sale. West County
west contra costa school board candidates forums scheduled: The public is invited to a West Contra Costa Unified School District candidates forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Manzanita Middle School, 3200 Barrett Ave., Richmond. The school district also has partnered with the League of Women Voters in sponsoring two debates in October. The first is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 8 in the multipurpose room at Murphy Elementary School, 4350 Valley View Road, Richmond. The second is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 22 in the multipurpose room at Riverside Elementary, 1300 Amador Road, San Pablo. Four candidates are vying for two open seats: Karen Pfeifer, Tony Thurmond, Robert Studdiford and Antonio Medrano.

Ed Fund grant applications available: West Contra Costa Ed Fund will give out $40,000 in grant money to teachers and schools this year for projects that provide new learning opportunities for West Contra Costa district students.

valley view fall festival coming up: Valley View Elementary will hold a fall festival from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 5, complete with music, a barbecue, dunk tank and baked goods. The event will be held at the school, 3416 Maywood Drive, Richmond. A pumpkin patch and raffle also will be featured. For more information, call the school at 510-223-6363.
El Cerrito
ECHS music fundraiser scheduled: Brunch for the Bands II, a fundraiser for the El Cerrito High music program, is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Downtown Restaurant, 2102 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley. Brunch will be served while musicians from ECHS play. Mo'Fone, a Bay-Area based jazz trio, also will appear, and a raffle will be held. Tickets cost $30, and raffle tickets will sell for $5 or five for $20.
