Livermore firefighters subdue hydrant

Oakland Tribune, Sep 30, 2008 by Valley Times

LIVERMORE

A Livermore fire hydrant erupted like Old Faithful on Tuesday after a large semi-truck accidentally hit the hydrant and damaged it, fire officials said. The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department responded at 12:11 p.m. to a call about the hydrant in a commercial parking lot near Constitution and Independence drives, said Capt. Michael Miller. Fire officials were able to subdue the gusher within five minutes, before water had a chance to enter nearby buildings, Miller said. Miller said he believed the driver of the truck inadvertently caught the end of his trailer on the hydrant while trying to locate an address. The estimated repair costs were unknown. -- Jeanine Benca
